Activity:
The Port of Tarragona is one of Spain’s main ports and one of the most important Mediterranean ports in sectors such as petrochemicals, iron and steel products and agrifood. It handles an average of 32 million tons of cargo annually.
Its infrastructure, geostrategic position and cargo diversification endow the Port of Tarragona with one of greatest growth potentials in the Mediterranean.
A firm commitment to diversification and the boost provided by general cargo, which also brings greater added value, is currently giving the port its best results ever. This is reflected, for example, in the continuous growth in the number of vehicles imported and exported, the amount of paper pulp handled and the consolidation of new traffic types, including project cargo and livestock.
Another challenge of recent years currently being achieved is an increase in passenger traffic, with the successful positioning of the city of Tarragona and, as a consequence our port, as a new emerging destination for cruises.
A firm objective of the Port of Tarragona is to become a major transport logistics hub with the development of the La Boella intermodal terminal, the Logistics Activities Zone (ZAL) and the future PortTarragona Terminal Guadalajara-Marchamalo.
In summary, the Port of Tarragona is an enclave in continuous growth and expansion. This positions it as a benchmark port for the whole of Spain and a logistics centre for the Mediterranean Arc.
