The war in Ukraine has disrupted international flows of grain and other commodities, but it is far from the only threat. Climate change is making crop failures due to floods or droughts more frequent, and new varieties of plant and animal pathogens continue to evolve. However, it remains largely true that the problem is not so much the lack of availability of food, but that of getting it from where it is raised or grown to where it is needed, cheaply and without excessive waste. This is a supply chain issue. ZLC participates in a Horizon Europe-funded project that aims to create an integrated approach to improving the resilience of food systems, advocating for food security and uninterrupted food supply. The project aims to devise systems and methodologies to increase the resilience and sustainability of food supply chains.
